Cherish Every Moment: Why Relationships Matter More Than Anything
I’m sitting at the airport, much earlier than I’d like. Today, I’m headed to Ohio to spend time with my dad and Paula. While I’m excited to be with them, I wish it wasn’t under such sad circumstances. My Grandma Dixie passed away. But I take comfort in knowing she’s now at peace and free from pain. During this difficult time, I’m here to celebrate her life and offer support to my family.
Life Is Short – Don’t Take Time for Granted
The truth is, we only have so many days on this earth. We never know when our own lives will end or when we’ll lose those who are closest to us. That’s why I try to live each day with intention and appreciation.
Living far from family has been one of the hardest challenges. The 7-8 hour drive to visit, especially with kids, is not easy. And when you have to ensure that everything is handicap accessible, it adds another layer of complexity. Then there’s the cost of travel, which can sometimes be a burden. We’ve had lean years, and while I’m grateful for the lessons those times taught me, I can’t help but feel that they robbed me of precious time with my loved ones.

Living with Purpose and No Regrets
I strive to live with no regrets. But sometimes, even when you recognize past mistakes, there’s no opportunity to change course. This is why I’m so open about money. We all need to recognize the obvious: You can never get time back. So many times, it’s a lack of financial resources that holds us back from spending quality time with the people who matter most.
Time, Responsibility, and Relationships
Sometimes, it’s not about money—it’s about being overwhelmed by the weight of responsibility. It’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind and forget to make time for the ones who matter most, including the people in your own home.
Relationships with your spouse and children are everything. For me, building strong bonds with each of my children has been a top priority. I’ve used homeschooling as a way to invest in those relationships, but it’s also important to nurture sibling bonds. Siblings are the people you can rely on when everyone else is gone, and they’re the ones who will carry on your memories.
Making Relationships a Priority
How are you making relationships a priority in your life? It doesn’t have to be complicated. It could mean hosting a monthly brunch with your friends, going to daddy-daughter dances, or organizing family gatherings at home where your kids feel safe and loved. It’s the little things that make all the difference. Creating strong healthy relationships is self care, its a support system in difficult times. Here are some other ways I take care of myself.
Don’t Wait – Time is Precious
Don’t let another day go by without investing in the relationships that matter most. Time is something we can never get back, so don’t waste a single moment.
