A different kind of security in a disaster is making your home a haven.
Have you ever walked into your home and its like the house itself is screaming at you? Just little piles seem so large?
Getting control of the environment will give you peace. It will make your house feel like a home. Clutter steals your peace. Most likely, you have too much stuff.
The first time that I heard of Flylady was around 2007. I was a mom of 2 having just adopted Ananya. She was 2. My oldest was 9. It was completely overwhelming to go from 1 to 2 children for me. My house was out of control. I had no routines. I didn’t know how to keep a home clean, how to create a routine.
But can we pause for a minute?
Why has a whole generation not been taught how to run their lives? We don’t know basic financial information. Taxes seem like a scary mystery. Maintaining a house? About as scary as doing taxes. Ridiculous. Let’s do better and teach the young people how to manage their lives as we learn how to manage our own lives.
So Flylady was instrumental in helping me gain control of my house. In the first few months, I was able to get rid of like 26 trash bags of stuff. It was very freeing. I’ve continued through the years. I learned to let go of things, whether to the trash, Goodwill or friends who could use an item.
You can learn about Flylady at flylady.net. She has instructions for getting started, how to declutter and setting up routines to find order in your life and home. 15 minutes at a time you can clear space in your home and your mind. Can you find the one place in your house that is annoying you? Now take 5 minutes to remove trash, return items to their place, or things that need donated. 5 minutes or 5 items, it’s still progress. Consistently working every day will bring peace.
